Museum and Photographic Foundation Winterthur

The photographs depict the reality - or alternatives thereto. The Museum of Photography in Winterthur shows the world through the lens. The collaboration with the Swiss Foundation of Photography has created a unique center of competence of its kind in Europe in the field of photography.

Swiss mecca of photography is in a former factory which showcases temporary exhibitions and permanent collections of contemporary and classical photography. Part of the museum oriented cultural-historical and sociological welcomes photography applied in the areas of policy, industry, construction of dams and medicine. The permanent collections are a hall devoted to contemporary artists with works by Lewis Baltz, William Eggleston, Nan Goldin and many others.

The Museum of Photography in Winterthur is also a classic museum for masters of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Karl Blossfeldt, Bill Brandt or Dorothea Lange.

The Swiss Foundation for Photography is committed to the conservation, enhancement and dissemination of photographic works. It manages an archive and a collection which to date comprises more than 30 legacy and about 30,000 original prints of outstanding photographers.
